INFORMAL MEN’S BREAKFAST – SATURDAY 14 FEBRUARY, 9.00 am

The informal men’s breakfast has been set up to cater for those who can’t wait to eat in between the Men’s Breakfast meetings we have every other month.  There is no speaker at this event but is an opportunity for people to invite their friends and neighbours for breakfast and get to know some Christian men.

This is a regular event, we meet every second Saturday of the month.

We are currently meeting at the Cafe in Ripon Spa Gardens.

MESSY CHURCH, 14 FEBRUARY, 4.00 pm

Messy Church is about family, creativity, hospitality and celebration.

It is a place to be with the whole family and join in with craft activities, play games and eat together within a Christian environment.

Messy Church is for everyone.

We meet on the second Saturday of each month from 4.00pm – 5.30pm, and it is free for all those that come along.

BOOKS

MEETING GOD IN MATTHEW by Elaine Storkey (SPCK), which is very suitable for Lent, or for the whole of the year in which our gospel readings in seasonal time will be mainly from Matthew. It is intentionally accessible and includes discussion questions for groups.

MEETING GOD IN JOHN: a companion for Lent, Holy Week, Easter and beyond by David Ford, would also be a possibility since many of the Gospel readings during Lent come from John’s Gospel.

DRAW NEAR; LIFE GIVING HABITS FOR LENT is the CofE’s theme for Lent 2026. 40 daily reflections. NB the reflections for Holy Week and Easter Day are contributed by Kate Bruce who many will remember as a curate at Holy Trinity. (*these booklets are cheaper if bought in packs of 10, so if you are interested it may be worth getting together with others to purchase copies)

REFLECTIONS FOR LENT, HOLY WEEK AND EASTER offers reflections based on the Common Worship Lectionary readings for Morning Prayer. The book also includes a simple form of Morning Prayer and Night Prayer (Compline) so could be used in a daily routine of prayer during Lent.

THE HEART’S TIME by Janet Morley contains a poem and reflection for each day of Lent, Holy Week and Easter Week.  Beautifully written and very accessible, illustrates how poetry can be used to nourish our spiritual lives.

HEARTSTRINGS – SONGS ON THE EXPERIENCE OF LOVE

Counter tenor Hugh Cutting and lutenist Sergio Bucheli celebrate the ways that songwriters have coloured our experience of love in all its forms. Their illuminating choice of songs juxtaposes music from different eras – Dowland to Don Mclean; Britten to the Beatles – demonstrating that whilst times may change, the pangs of the human heart remain the same.

An intimate afternoon of songs for voice and lute from the rising-star countertenor described by The Times as having ‘an exceptional voice: lustrous and rounded, with power in reserve and immaculate intonation.’
