RenewRipon – Christmas/New Year Opening Times

RenewRipon (held in the Arches) will not be open on the following dates over the Christmas 24/New Year 25 period:

Monday 23rd/Tuesday 24th December 2024 and Monday 30th/Tuesday 31st December 2024

HOWEVER – on Monday 30th December 2024 a joint RenewRipon session will be held in the Claro Lounge Ripon, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm (ish).  All are welcome, and Christmas jumpers are a must!

MESSY CHURCH CHRISTMAS – SATURDAY 14 DECEMBER, 4.00 pm – 5.45 pm

Messy Church is about Family, Community and Faith in Jesus.

It’s an opportunity for ALL the family to come together – to do some activities based around a theme, to celebrate that theme in a gathering, and then to eat a meal together.

Messy Church is for everyone, but is especially for people who don’t already belong to another form of church.  We aren’t running Messy Church to swell our Sunday congregation, although you would be made welcome at this too, but we are offering an alternative to families who, for what ever reason, may not find a Sunday service appropriate.

Doors open at 4pm. There is no need to contact us – just turn up!

Advent and Christmas Services and Events

WALLED GARDEN CHRISTMAS TREE COLLECTION – SATURDAY 4 JANUARY

Could anyone with a tow hook and trailer volunteer to help our young people and The Walled Garden (one of our Mission Partners) collect Christmas trees on Saturday 4 January? Please speak to Alison Ratcliffe.

FAREWELL BRING AND SHARE LUNCH – 5 JANUARY

So this doesn’t get lost in Christmas activity this is advance notice for 5th January.

Following the farewell service for Chris and Ruth there will be an opportunity to eat together with a Bring  and Share lunch .Following  the successful lunch for Michelle we are repeating  the same  arrangements with a tweak!

To assist with catering please would you bring your food contribution with quantities for 6 and to be served cold. Please do not include nuts in the food due to allergies. For those with special diets, as this will be a busy occasion with food from many sources, we suggest you may feel safer bringing your own individual plate of food.

It would help if food contributions could be in named containers / plates which can go directly onto the communal table and which you  can collect ( with any remaining food ) afterwards.

On this occasion would everyone bring SAVOURY items.

Farewell cake will be provided for dessert.

Thank you. Any queries see Kathryn Bailey.

Growing in your Faith

This is just an advance notice of things to look out for.

In the New Year we will be running a number of Christianity Explored and Hope Explored courses throughout the year. Those that have joined these courses have found a real revitalisation and growth in their faith. If you are looking for a New Year resolution attending one or more of these courses might be just the thing. Details will be published soon, in time for our Advent and Christmas services. Look out for the details!

Reading the Bible in a Year We have had a really active group reading through the New Testament this autumn. Those who have taken up this challenge have been surprised at how easy this has been; doing it with a group really helps and motivates people. If you are interested in reading through the whole Bible in 2025 with a group for support, let us know and we will give you full details: Reading the Bible

House Groups Finally, we are currently working on giving greater publicity to our House Groups (we have over 10 currently) Once all the information has been collated we will let you know what house groups are available to join. There will also be opportunities to start new ones too. So please look out for this information.

EXPERIMENT IN INTERNATIONAL LIVING UK

Each year the charity, EIL UK, receives hundreds of applications from international students studying at British universities hoping to experience Christmas or New Year in a British home. They are looking for more volunteer families in Yorkshire who could host an overseas university student for a 3-night stay between 20 December 2024 and 5 January 2025.

EIL UK would like to invite the congregation to be part of this rich and rewarding experience and continue the traditions that HOST UK started in 1987 by offering a student who is far from home, hospitality and friendship through a Festive Stay. If anyone is interested in finding out more about hosting for EIL UK, visit www.eiluk.org or email [email protected]. EIL offers host families training, support from a local coordinator and a contribution towards the costs of hosting.
