Mission Partner Prayer Focus

Please hold in your prayers Lake Rukwa Diocese in Tanzania.

Lake Rukwa is a large (bigger than Wales) and very rural diocese in Tanzania led by Bishop Mathayo Kasagara since its formation. Over the years +Mathayo has gradually built up the diocese. There have been many confirmations and eventually an ordination. Perhaps the greatest achievement has been to build a cathedral in Mpanda. There is still no income other than donations from external sources.

His great work largely done, +Mathayo is now contemplating retirement.

Please pray that this very financially poor Diocese:

  • Is able to secure the resources it needs to grow God’s Kingdom;
  • That as Bishop Mathayo contemplates retirement, a sound succession plan is put in place; and
  • The economy in Lake Rukwa, which remains vulnerable to the environment is stable. Agriculture is directly dependent on annual rainy seasons, and there is a close relationship between variations in the amount of rainfall and a sound economy.
