Notices of Week of 3 October 2022

Last Night

We hope you all had a good weekend and were able to join us in worship. Restored last night was a great blessing to the 50 or so people who came along. Our next Restored is on Sunday 16 October at 6.30 pm in The Arches.

Last Week

On Friday last week there was an event at Ripon Cathedral to celebrate those who volunteer and serve the community of Ripon. Many Holy Trinity folk were recognised for their work and Gloria was honored by receiving the Volunteer of the Year award – presented by the Dean. Well done Gloria. Of course, Gloria mentioned the whole team who support her in her work especially those who help at Thursday Lunch.

And Next Week!

Monday 10 October is World Mental Health Day, and we are holding an Open Afternoon at Renew Ripon, to raise awareness of mental health and to give an opportunity to everyone to experience what we’re all about. If you’ve ever wondered what it is like or have in mind to recommend it to someone else this open day might be what you have been looking for!

Trinity Tuesday

Don’t forget, tomorrow (4 Oct) evening at 7.30 pm we have our monthly gathering: Trinity Tuesday. Matt will be leading us in some worship and Michelle will be guiding us around some prayer stations to pray for Mission: our Mission Partners and the Mission of Holy Trinity in and around Ripon. We will be upstairs in the main church for this and refreshments will be served from 7.15 pm.

Friendship Café

Our new gathering for folk to natter and take part in simple crafts or just listen and have a cuppa is happening again this week (5 Oct). Our friends at Home Instead are running this and have trained support on hand to help. This event is dementia friendly – but is open to all. The Friendship Café meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month at 1.30 pm.

Digging Deeper

Our new course taking some time to look at The Bible in greater depth starts this Friday (7 Oct) at 7.30 pm in Room 5. Digging Deeper is being led by John Rutter. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Messy Church

On Saturday (8 Oct) at 4 pm it is once again Messy Church. This week we are looking at the story of Noah and the Ark. Everyone is welcome to attend and is a great gathering to bring someone new who doesn’t normally do church. We will have our usual mix of crafts, games, a story and of course our famous sit down tea.

Mission Partner Prayer Focus

CPAS (Church Pastoral Aid Society) is our current prayer focus. We continue to pray for:

New Appointment: Jon Scamman its new CEO, taking over the helm from John Dunnett. Jon is an Arrow Leadership Programme graduate, has been vicar of St Thomas’ Lancaster, a CPAS patronage church for the last 12 years, and his children have attended various Venture holidays over the years. Please pray for Jon and his family as they make this transition, as well as praying for St Thomas’ church as they seek a new vicar.

Leadership: The new CPAS book ‘How to Nurture a Culture of Evangelism’ by James Lawrence has been widely distributed. Pray that it is well received and stimulates helpful discussions around evangelism in this country. Also, the Leading Evangelism Learning Hub is an exciting new initiative which helps church leaders think through how to nurture the ministry of evangelism within the life of churches and congregations. The online learning hub consists of eight sessions run over four terms (14 months), a day and evening each term. Several of these have now been started. Pray that those participating find value in these hubs.

Ventures and Falcons: Give praise for 2,430 children at Summer Ventures in 2022 (up from 1,196 in 2021) and 266 children at Summer Falcons in 2022 (up from 170 in 2021). Give thanks for the 2,223 volunteers who helped at these 64 Ventures and Falcons residentials. Please pray that each child (and leader) will have been drawn closer to Jesus as a result of their holiday experience. May God nurture the seeds that have been sown through these times.

Patronage: There are nearly 700 churches across the UK for whom CPAS is their patron. CPAS have extended their staff team to accommodate the exceptionally high number of vacancies at the moment. Please pray for their staff that they would have wisdom and discernment in finding the right people for the roles advertised, plus energy and perseverance to deal with their heavy workload. Please pray also for the many churches who are coping without a vicar in charge at the moment…
