Confirmation Service This Sunday

This Sunday (23 October) we welcome Bishop Helen-Ann who is to confirm candidates at our 10.30 am service. Please try and come to this to support the candidates and keep them in your prayers this week too. Pray for: Diane, Elliot and Sam; and Molly, Jake and Willow.

Discipleship

We are at the early stages of developing a wider strategy for evangelism and discipleship. We hope you will be excited by this as details emerge. Two elements – announced last week – relate to this. Firstly please let us know if you would like to find out about being trained in helping to lead a Christianity Explored Course. Note by saying you are interested doesn’t commit yourself to doing this, but it will enable you to find out what it will look like. If you are interested please click on the link here and leave your details:  Christianity Explored

As said last week – there is nothing more amazing than helping someone get to know Jesus!

Additionally, we are hoping to involve the House Groups / Home Groups / Life Groups and Study Groups in these plans too. To ensure your group is updated please let us know if you lead a group. We will then ensure your group is kept in the loop. Leave your details here: House Group Leaders

If you added your details last week there is no need to add them this week. Thank you.

LunchBox

After the success of the summer we are once again offering LunchBox during half-term.

It all happens Tuesday to Thursday in half-term at midday. LunchBox Details

Nick Pearce

Nick is part way through a major effort to raise money for Diabetes UK. He is well on the way to completing a total of 300 miles cycling this month and is seeking sponsors to smash his fund raising target! If you’d like to find out more and help with the fundraising take a look here: 300 Miles

Advent and Christmas

We are getting to that time of year again! Our services and other events are being planned as I write and a separate post will be sent out about this later. If your group or activity has a special Advent or Christmas gathering and you would like it to be publicised – please let the Office know. Additionally, please use the church app (MyChurchSuite) to record any unavailability you have over the Christmas period so that we can confirm rotas for our services. Thank you for your help.

Mission Partner Prayer Focus

We have a new prayer focus this week for our Mission Partners. Please hold in your prayers Lake Rukwa Diocese in Tanzania.

Lake Rukwa is a large (bigger than Wales) and very rural diocese in Tanzania led by Bishop Mathayo Kasagara since its formation. Over the years +Mathayo has gradually built up the diocese. There have been many confirmations and eventually an ordination. Perhaps the greatest achievement has been to build a cathedral in Mpanda. There is still no income other than donations from external sources.

His great work largely done, +Mathayo is now contemplating retirement.

Please pray that this very financially poor Diocese:

  • Is able to secure the resources it needs to grow God’s Kingdom;
  • That as Bishop Mathayo contemplates retirement, a sound succession plan is put in place; and
  • The economy in Lake Rukwa, which remains vulnerable to the environment is stable. Agriculture is directly dependent on annual rainy seasons, and there is a close relationship between variations in the amount of rainfall and a sound economy.
